Bored, bored, bored

At the beginning of February I spent a lovely weekend with my friends in the Machine Embroidery Group at our new venue in Salisbury, over looking the cathedral.   I was happily getting on with the Mad Hatter and have organised how the front will look...  once I have created more scissors, cotton reels and needles.

However since then I have spent the last 11 days in bed with a very nasty viral chest infection !! I got out of bed today and spent a few minutes in the workroom.  But I have realised I AM BORED.  I am bored of my costumes, bored of the time consuming nature of my costumes, bored of stitching, bored of feeling ill,  bored of reading, bored of watching boring day time TV, bored of cleaning, cooking and going to work. I AM JUST SO BORED. I could continue to stay in bed forever.  Could I be suffering from depression?  It can't be the fact that I am still coughing and my nose is still bunged up and I am not eating (lost a stone now in the last 11 days). Nothing is making me smile.  My daughter has just visited and finds the way I feel funny! she thinks I should just do something - as doing something should make me feel better - but I don't know what to do.

Whilst in Salisbury I did purchase two magazines - both English for a change - Homemade with Love - the premier issue - is a sweet magazine - online the sales pitch for it reads :

Making things makes you feel good. It’s as simple as that. Making things for friends and family makes you feel fantastic.

We can all use a little inspiration from time to time. Homemade with love is an exciting, new, bi-monthly magazine showcasing the very best makers and crafters under one roof!

Homemade with love explores the world of making, bringing loads of inspirational ideas featuring over 30 fabulous ideas in each issue, simple instructions and bags of inspiration to feed your imagination.

Well I enjoyed reading it but it did not make me feel any better :-)  The other magazine I purchase is Cloth - again a nice magazine - all about upcycling - my fav topic -  Their on line sales pitch reads:
Cloth is a fashion and craft magazine dedicated to bringing you the best in upcycling, fashion fixes and style advice. While you're here, try your hand at one of our beautiful projects, keep up-to-date with the latest fashion news and brush up your sewing skills.
Well I enjoyed reading it but it did not make me feel any better :-)
I wandered down to the end of my garden and found the snow drops have multiplied since last year - but they don't make me feel any better.

I have done a lot of blog reading from my sick bed and have entered giveaways.  Just before Christmas I was lucky enough to win some scraps from Art Girl (http://colorfulartgirl.blogspot.co.uk) Thank you - They arrived recently and I looked through them today - yes they are lovely but I have no idea what to do with them - so they have not yet made me feel better.

I also entered a giveaway on Annett  Sibson's blog
http://annettsibson.blogspot.com
where she asked people to guess what the photo was - I had no idea what it was (turned out to be a banana plant) but nevertheless I won the giveaway and a waiting for my prize (opposite) to arrive - Thank you in advance - looking forward to that but am still not feeling better.

Finally I entered a giveaway by Gina Ferrari (http://ginaferrari.blogspot.co.uk/) recently and have had the news that I have won the bread making book. Thank you in advance. - looking forward to that arriving - but still not feeling better...

WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH ME - I SHOULD BE HAPPY, THE SUN IS SHINING, I AM ALIVE, I HAVE GREAT  CREATIVE, GENEROUS BLOG FRIENDS, A LOVING FAMILY, MY HOME, MY JOB ETC ETC. SOMEONE HELP :-)

I think you are feeling poorly and probably when you are better you'll begin to turn the corner.

I am stuffing myself with vitamins at the moment. My symptoms were not quite like yours, but I was struggling a bit. And I am sure they have helped.

Also, I have a dog! You just can't be bored with a dog! They need walking and find delight in simple things. Can you borrow a dog (or perhaps try a bit of volunteer dog walking for your local rescue charity - when you're better of course!).

Just a thought!

Oh Anna, I feel your pain. Actually no I don't really feel your pain but I can relate and it seems to me you have the post illness blues. You are still not well and I am not inclined to make a diagnosis from Australia at 1.30 am when I have no professional qualifications but I do know what depression feels like and I wonder if that is what you have.

I do hope you feel better soon. It is so hard to be in that space.

Sending some summer warmth xxxxx

Sounds like Februaryitus to me. Too many long grey days, not enough sunshine with the added extra of being ill. I hope that you are soon eeling better.

Sometimes life is just like that, but I'm sure your mojo will return soon. Something will turn up and kick you out of the doldrums, with me it's usually a little thing. Sometimes I go days and weeks thinking why the hell am I here, why does nothing that I'm up to feel like it has any meaning and then something daft will happen to make me smile ..... a favourite song on the radio, witnessing some insignificant but beautiful thing .... and slowly one smile turns into another, and before you know it life is full of laughter and things that make you feel content and it becomes good again.

Just try not to be too hard on yourself when you're not enjoying things and if you ever need a distraction or a change of scene you can always come visit sunny Swindon (and me!) xx
